Hear first-hand from our residents about life here!
My husband receives excellent, professional care at Colonial Acres in the Morningside Memory Support Neighborhood. The friendly and compassionate staff and the open, safe atmosphere are very stimulating for him. Also, the spiritual emphasis has been a comfort to me.
“You can’t beat it here. I’ve been to other rehab centers and nothing has compared to Colonial Acres. When I was first admitted... I was visited by the pastor, Randy, who really sets the tone for the welcoming, caring environment. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. The people, the staff, the treatment. There is a warmth here. It’s like a family and everyone is looking out for each other. I have therapy every day and I really enjoy working with every one of my therapists.”
Over the years I have come to Colonial Acres three times after hospitalization and surgery and received excellent rehab care. The promise of continuing care assures me that I will receive care as needed in the future.
Heritage House Assisted Living Memory Support was our first and only choice when it became clear that Dad needed more care and supervision. The staff has been very attentive and caring and brings us in as part of the care team. They alert us to changes in his condition and everyone from direct caregivers to nursing staff to administration has been very approachable and helpful. It’s hard to leave someone who has been so independent in the care of others, but the staff at Heritage House has made a tough period in our lives a lot easier.
We constantly talk with friends who live in or are considering entering a retirement community. Our first question is, “do they have continuing care?“ The answers we get are very revealing. Usually they do not know what we are talking about. Case in point: Several years ago Vern fell and fractured his hip. After surgery and a short hospital stay, he was transferred to Colonial Acres Healthcare Center for rehab. Elaine and many friends could visit me easily and I received both physical and occupational therapy right there. When I was discharged, the therapists came right across the street to our apartment.
Elaine’s sister has been a resident at Colonial Acres on the Morningside Memory Support Neighborhood for several years. She is well cared for and she is treated with respect. The staff is unbelievable with the residents. We are so grateful that we have access to care that goes beyond the doors of our apartment. This is what continuing care is all about.
My husband has been at Colonial Acres for 1 1/2 years and I have been very happy with his care. He had been in 5 other facilities before that and this one is by far the best. I am confident that my husband is being taken good care of at all times. The nursing staff is some of the best. They are caring and they like their jobs. All the staff are friendly and easy to talk to. Many of my friends have commented on the fact that there is no bad smell in this home. I would highly recommend this facility to others.
I know my therapy has been the best. My therapists always gave me a goal to work towards. We were always working toward a higher level. All my therapists were very pleasant, encouraging and understanding. They were all knowledgeable to know what to have me do to work hard and improve. My PT and OT worked so well together. I was often really tired when I was done, but they always had me aiming towards improvement. It also proved that doing exercises each day before coming to rehab was important. Thanks so much to each one of my therapists.
I have found the rehab therapy at Colonial Acres to be a very positive experience. The therapists are knowledgeable, friendly and they look and act professional. They work well together to help me achieve my goals to return home.
I am very impressed with the rehab therapy at Colonial Acres. This is my third rehab stay and each time the therapy staff have helped me so I could return home. The therapists talk with you and set goals with you. They aren’t pushy. They praise you for your accomplishments. Each therapist is friendly. I have enjoyed working with each one. I would highly recommend the therapy at Colonial Acres.
Be prepared! The Scout motto was apparent at the Covenant Living gardens. The scouts and crew were ready willing to do what was necessary to get the garden project started, even in the rain. Ethan Benedict will be completing his Eagle project with the removal of old timbers, placement of new timbers and leveling of the garden. Thanks to Ethan and his crew, our gardeners will have a new look to their garden plot, when spring arrives. Covenant Living staff members John Haugen, Vicky Mehrwerth and Lori Leininger are involved in the project. Resident Glen Thill got in on the action too. ... See moreSee less

The idea for Face to Face, our closing event for Active Aging Week, was borrowed from Mount Miguel, a Covenant Living community in California. Residents and staff got the opportunity to ask questions in pairs, and then rotated to new partners for several rounds. A list of questions helped prompt lively conversations and created or enhanced relationships. Residents enjoyed visiting with each other and especially enjoyed visiting with staff on a personal level. We love our warm and friendly campus! ... See moreSee less
